What I don’t understand is, as Sam mentions, if we are taking a Darwinian perspective then yes, these myths evolved and replicated very successfully. However, following that reasoning, isn’t it safe to say they are no longer the perfect ideological tool? If reasoned debate can now find flaws in religion, why can our ideas no longer evolve? Why must we remain shackled to the texts?
